What the Green 'Google Guaranteed' Checkmark Actually Means

Google's strongest local trust badge explained — the screening behind Local Services Ads, pay-per-lead vs pay-per-click, and what the badge does for booking rates.

Above the ads. Above the map pack. At the absolute top of a local search, some trades appear with a green checkmark and the words Google Guaranteed. It's the best position on the page wearing the strongest trust badge Google issues — and most business owners have no idea how it works or that they could have it.

What the badge is

Google Guaranteed is the trust mark of Local Services Ads (LSA) — a separate ad system built specifically for local service businesses. The badge means Google has screened the business: license checked, insurance verified, background checks passed. And Google puts money behind it — customers who book through the badge are covered by Google's satisfaction guarantee, with Google refunding dissatisfied customers up to a capped amount. When Google itself vouches for a roofer, the half-second trust decision tilts hard.

Pay-per-LEAD changes the economics

Regular Google Ads charge per click — you pay when anyone taps your ad, including tire-kickers and competitors. LSA charges per lead: you pay only when a real customer actually calls or messages you through the ad. Leads are exclusive (not resold to three competitors, which is the business model of the big homeowner-referral platforms), and disputed junk leads can be credited. For trades, that's a fundamentally saner deal: your budget buys conversations with people who want work done.

The screening is the moat

Here's the honest part: getting verified is a grind. License documentation, proof of insurance, background checks for the business and its owner, and Google's process for wrangling all of it is famously unforgiving — applications stall for months on a mislabeled document. That grind is also exactly why the badge converts: customers implicitly know not everyone can get it.

Our Google Guaranteed Setup ($500, one-time) handles the entire application — documents, checks, the back-and-forth with Google's verification — until the green checkmark is live on your business. Once it's running, you control the budget: ads run on your ad spend, at a weekly cap you set, and pause whenever your schedule is full.

The three businesses at the very top of the page aren't lucky. They're verified.
